An intimate, uniquely Pacific Northwest style guest suite.

About the Elalah South at Estancia Serenova

The Elalah South is the original section of the now-expanded Elalah building constructed in 1927.

Basic information:

  • Total overnight guest capacity: six
  • Beds: 3 (1 queen, 1 double, 1 single)
  • Bath: 1 (no bathtub, shower only)
  • A fully equipped kitchenette with a refrigerator, appliances, and utensils

Previously, the house was home to musician Jon Nyberg and prior to that, the first location of Columbia Humane Society’s cat shelter when it was founded by the late Dr. Dory M. Walrod.

The work of renovation began in 2016 by gutting the entire house, which had been in a bad shape due to years of neglect. We’ve added a brand-new north wing (the Elalah North, which houses the administrative office and is not available for guest use), expanding the floor space of the building by over three times.

The Elalah South now serves as a guest suite with two bedrooms, one bath, and a kitchenette. It is also utilized as a bridal suite for weddings, as well as for group retreats and workshops.

The name Elalah comes from the name of a historical Native American village (in modern-day Deer Island, Oregon) on the shore of the Columbia River several miles from here. The names of the rooms in the Elalah are from the cities of Columbia County, Oregon.

We designed the Elalah in the spirit of the Pacific Northwest casual hip, artsy playfulness, year-round comfort, and a touch of elegance. The Elalah is indeed elegance and you’ll love it as your home away from home!

Beautiful natural setting for all seasons.

Estancia Serenova's 20-acre campus features four distinct terrains: a grassy wetland by a creek, two heritage orchards, a towering woodland with tall conifers, and a charming garden. Take a walk and enjoy the views from our Mirador Santa Clara, a hilltop overlook. Stroll in the orchards and pick some fruits. Enjoy your morning yoga or evening campfire in the Nesi'ka Illahee Garden.
